Preds on the Prowl
The 2002 Predators had another great weekend at the Shanahan.
After a disappointing overtime loss at their last tournament in the semi-finals to Markham, the team was determined to come out strong this past weekend.
With 40 teams entered they would need to go undefeated in order to advance to Sunday, and they did just that beating West Seneca, Sudbury, Brantford and the home town favorites Mississauga Reps
The team started Sunday in the 1/4 finals against another strong GTHL team, the Mississauga Rebels. This was a tight match which needed overtime to resolve. Early in the 3-on-3 overtime period, Smitty got a breakaway and with a little deke sealed the victory for NCP (2-1)
Off to the semi's vs a highly ranked American team, the Chicago Young Americans. This was a fast paced game with lots of action at both ends. The boys speed and great passes prevailed and came out with a decisive victory (4-1)
The finals saw the Predators facing the Marlies, #2 ranked team in Ontario. The Preds kept pace with this very skilled team for much of the game but in the end could not pull out the victory losing 7-2.
This team has a lot to be proud of this past weekend, getting to the finals at the Shanahan is no small feat.
And they have created a little buzz around the rinks. "Where is North Central anyways?"
