Regular Season Kick Off Weekend.
We officially kicked off the start of our regular season with two games over the weekend. The Elmvale Home Building Centre Major Atom AAA Predators found themselves playing in two tough games on Saturday and Sunday.
We started the weekend playing our first game vs. last seasons OMHA champs York-Simcoe Express. The final score was not a true representation of how the game unfolded. The Predators took an early lead in the game from hard work and determination from Hiland Monague not giving up on a dump out of the zone. Hiland drove hard to the net and as Coach Chris put it, he did a Superman dive to poke the puck past the goalie and offer the team the lead. York-Simcoe would not let up and continued a strong pursuit of the puck tying the game before the end of the second period. York-Simcoe Express continued to add pressure and scored a couple goals in the 3rd period thanks to some lucky bounces, hard work and determination.
The players came to the rink energized and ready to play on Sunday vs. the Quinte Red Devils who had come off a 3-3 tie vs. Barrie the night before. Quinte would score the first goal of the game late in the first period. Both teams exchanged chances in the second period with neither team able to find the back of the net. Quinte was able to capitalize on a few miscues in the 3rd period and would end up taking a 4-0 lead. Zeke Neely would find the back of the net for the Predators as we added pressure late in the game, however this would end as the final result.
We are still early in the season with a lot of hockey ahead of us, we need to keep our heads held high, stay positive and continue to work hard in practice to continue our development. We now have a few practices coming this week prior to our tournament next weekend in London.
