Vaughan Kings Classic Tournament Finalists
The Elmvale Home Building Centre Major Atom AAA Predators participated in the 3rd annual Vaughan Kings Classic Tournament over this past weekend.  The team should be proud and everyone hold their heads up high having made it all the way to the finals.

We would start off the tournament Friday morning facing a familiar opponent in the Clarington Toros.  We would find ourselves in a close battle with both teams exchanging chances during the course of the game.  We would come out on top with the Win after a 1-0 score.

We would find ourselves playing the Kanata Blazers in game 2 Friday afternoon.  This would be the first game for Kanata in the tournament and we could see that they came out to win.  We battle hard the game was 2-1 for Kanata at the end of 2 periods.  Kanata would get some early chances in which they would capitalize in the 3rd period and would hand us our first loss 5-2.

Saturday morning we found ourselves playing the Toronto Red Wings.  The Predators came out hungry after having lost to Kanata the day before and controlled the play of the game coming out with a 4-2 win.  We would face the Peterborough Petes later that night in which would prove to be the clincher for the team to make it into the semi-finals with a 2-1 win.

The semi-finals would have us facing the top seeded team in Pool A from the tournament in the Nepean Raiders.  Nepean would find themselves with the early lead in the game, however the Predators would not give up and would battle back to tie the game.  We would find ourselves all tied up at 2 at the end of regulation.  The game would go to a 5 minute overtime 3 on 3 period.  The game remained tied and we would need the shootout to decide the winner.  The first two Preds would find the back of the net while our goalie held his ground and kept them from scoring advancing the team into the finals and a rematch vs the Kanata Blazers.

North Central would take the early lead in the game holding onto a 1-0 lead all the way into the later part of the 3rd period.  Kanata would score a first goal late in the 3rd period, followed by a power-play goal that would end up being the game winner 2-1 Kanata.

We will look to have this success continue into our regular season next weekend.

Go Preds Go !!!
