North American Atom Silver Stick Finals
This past weekend the Elmvale Home Building Centre Major Atom AAA Predators participated in the North American Atom Silver Stick tournament in Sarnia.
It was an honour to have been invited to participate in this event. The team should be proud of having received the invitation and opportunity to play in this tournament.
We would kick off the tournament facing the Detroit Belle Tire team. The Predators would put a lot of pressure on Belle Tire and control a good portion of the game. The bounces just did not seem like they would go our way in the first game and we would take a 2-1 loss.
Game two would have us facing the SSM Greyhounds a team which was coming off a big win in their first game. North Central would continue where they left off in game 1 with great puck control and down low pressure taking the game by a score of 4-1.
The Predators in game 3 would face the eventual tournament champs in the Chicago Mission. Chicago one of the stronger US ranked teams would find themselves with an early 3-0 lead. North Central would score a goal to cut the lead by two only to have Chicago rebound and score another goal to make it 4-1. We would not back down and go down without a fight as NCP would score the next two goals to make it a 4-3 game for the Mission. Chicago would add two additional goals before the end of the game and take the 6-3 win.
Detroit Victory Honda would be the 4th and final opponent in the round robin games. Both teams would battle hard exchanging chances at each end of the rink. This game came down to a battle of the goaltenders with North Central coming out with the 2-1 victory.
We should all be proud of the way we played all weekend, we faced some strong competition and held our own.
