Rochester International Hockey Tournament
Submitted By Administrator on Wednesday, January 30, 2013
We played in the Rochester Invitational this past weekend in western New York. This 28 team tournament featured teams from across the USA and Ontario.

The Kevin Russell coached club opened the preliminary round with a 6-0 win over the Dallas Penquins, a 4-1 win over Wheatfield (Buffalo) and a hardfought 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Jr Flyers, leaving the young Preds’ club with a 3-0 preliminary round record. The Predator team advanced to the gold division quarter finals and a game against the Middlesex Islanders from Boston. After three periods the game was tied at 2-2. Orillia natives Calan Tanzi-Foshay and Nick Holenski buried shootout goals to carry the team to a dramatic overtime win and a place in the semi-finals against the 7th ranked AAA club in Ontario, the Vaughan Kings. Led by the grit of forward Kobe Roe and the solid blueline play of Mitchell Russell, the Predators upset their GTHL opponent 4-2. Goaltender Caden Markle was outstanding in net earning the win. In the championship game, the Predators met their archrivals from Barrie, losing 1-0. The Minor Peewee Predators ended the tournament with a 5-1 record and winners of the tournment silver medal.

Goalie Joe Howe was stellar between the pipes finishing the tournament with a 2-1 record. Caden Markle was equally good finishing with a 3-0 record.

Offensive leaders in the tournament were Calan Tanzi-Foshay (6g, 2a), Kobe Roe (5g, 1a), Will Prentice (3g, 3a), Nick Holenski (2g, 1a), Phil Daoust (1g, 2a), Kyle Kuznik (1g, 1a), Ryan Graf-Sakasov (2g), Mitchell Russell (2a), Gavin Coutemanche (2a) and Lucas Hunter (1a).

The Minor Peewee Predators currently sit in third place in the Eastern Triple A circuit and have 4 league games before the OMHA playoffs begin in late February.
