NCP Introduces New U-14 Head Coach - Art West
Our NCP Executive is pleased to announce Mr. Art West as our new U-14 head coach. Art is married with 2 children. He and his wife moved into the Simcoe County area 4 years ago and are practicing lawyers, Art working as a securities lawyer with CIBC for the past 26 years and his wife Liz practicing in the Barrie and Orillia area. Art's son Ben currently plays for the OHL Colts as a netminder and his other son Nate is finishing high school and will attend McMaster in the fall.

Art played AAA hockey for the Toronto Young Nats as a youth and went on to play 4 years of Junior A hockey with the Markham Waxers and the Aurora Eagles. He finished his playing career with the University of Guelph in USport.

Art's coaching resume is extensive. Over a decade span, he coached in the Whitby Wildcat's AAA program for 3 seasons before moving into the GTHL - holding both assistant and head coaching positions with the Missisauga Senators (AAA), Toronto Titans (AAA) and Wolverines (AA) over a 5 year period. Art's most recent coaching assignment was one season with the Detroit Compuware U16 AAA Club as head coach.

Art has also spent considerable time coaching elite spring hockey teams. He spent two springs with the vaunted Toronto Bulldogs, was head coach of the Pro Hockey Development Group where he led teams to the prestigious World Selects Tournament in Finland, The Chowder Cup in Boston and The World Invitational Selects in Philadelphia. Some coaches of note that he has worked with on these teams include spending two seasons on a bench with NHL legend Paul Coffey and coached alongside Ryan Barnes, Steve Serdnachney and Lindsay Hofford. Art has coached several OHL, university and 2 NHL players.

Art is extremely excited to get started with our 2010 birth year group. "This is a highly motivated group that wants to learn and win. I see a tonne of potential in these kids. My job is to help build our culture so that each player can develop into outstanding young men while contributing to a winning program. I can't wait to get started this coming weekend."

Our executive is excited to have someone of Art's experience and leadership abilities guide our U-14 club. Along with input from capable assistants Rick Schaly and Kal Johnson, we believe this team is poised to be on the rise in the competitive ETA in the very near future.
