On Saturday Jan 2nd the
Kelsey's Orillia North Central Minor Midget Predators travelled to
Innisfil to take on their division rivals, the Barrie Colts. The 2
teams have been close in the standings through the entire season and
both teams wanted the win to improve their records.
The game was a defensive battle with neither team wanting to give up the first goal. Late in the first period the North Central Predators took advantage of a mishandled puck by the Colts netminder and quickly put it into the Barrie net giving the Predators the 1-0 lead. The second period was back and forth action with strong defensive play by both teams and each team taking advantage of one of the few scoring opportunities. The score after 2 periods North Central Predators 2 Barrie Colts 1. Neither team wavered from their defensive game plans in the final period and what few scoring chances arose were turned aside by both goaltenders. The final buzzer sounded and the North Central Predators skated away with the victory by a slim 2-1 margin.
Sunday Jan 3rd had the North Central Predators at home to face their familiar foes, the Markham Waxers. The
Predators were looking to extend their ETA league play win streak to 10 games and came out the gate skating hard. The Predators strong fore checking was finally rewarded midway through the first when a nice passing play ended up in the back of the Waxers net giving the home team a 1-0 lead. The Predators continued their strong play in the second and were able to put 7 more pucks into the Markham net before the period would end giving the North Central Predators a commanding 8-1 lead going into the 3rd. With the game well in hand the Predators continued to play a strong puck possession game and limit the Waxers to a minimal amount of time in the Predators zone. The final score, North Central Predators 9 Markham Waxers 1.
The Kelsey's Orillia North Central Predators are next in action when they travel to Richmond Hill to take on the Richmond Hill Coyotes on Wednesday Jan 6th. The Predators will be looking to avenge a Marlies tournament loss to the Coyotes.
The North Central Predators next home game will be on Saturday Jan 9th at 3pm in Midland, when they take on the division leading York Simcoe Express in what will be a "must win" for the Predators if they wish to keep their hopes of overtaking the Express in the standings alive. Come on out and support the team in their push for first place in the standings.
