Mattamy Minor Peewees Display Ongoing Progress
The Mattamy Homes Minor Peewees have been working hard over the past month to achieve  positive results in their regular season and tournament play.  While most productive on the tournament front, there have been some amazing moments of regular season play that have demonstrated that hard work, dedication and patience do inevitably pay off.

The Mattamy Homes Minor Peewees have participated in two tournaments between October 14 and November 14, both of which saw them grind their way to try and reach for gold in the finals.

The boys traveled to Buffalo for the Harbor Centre Cup mid October. Their first match up as against the NY Saints which they handily won 5-0, with solid pipe minding of T. Scott.   Their next match up was with the Atlanta Fire, which started out with the Fire opening the scoring and the boys not looking back for a 7-1 victory.  The third round robin game pitted us against a strong and fast Buffalo Jr. Sabres squad.  The Preds unfortunately ran into penalty problems and failed to show up at important points in the game, which handed us a difficult to swallow 8-0 loss.  The boys advanced to the Semi-Final against a tough Milton Winterhawks team.  This game proved to be one of the best of the season where the boys battled hard from a 2-0 deficit to rally in the third for an incredible 3-2 victory!  The final threw us up against the same Buffalo team, and the boys knew it was going to be difficult, but were still hopeful that they could give this team a run.  Unfortunately, Buffalo proved to be faster and intensely offensive making it that much more laborious for our boys to play with.  Our boys inability to stay out of the penalty box also put them behind the eight ball.   All in all, it was a most successful run to a tournament final and the rays of light are starting to shine through because of positive coaching and dedication from every member of the team.

The team continues to search for their second win during regular season play, but have certainly closed the gap in final score differentials in most games.  Highlights of regular season games have come most recently against Kingston on October 30th with a 2-1 loss after leading 1-0 until 8 mins left in the 3rd period and a disappointing 6-5 loss to the league leading Barrie Colts.  There have been a few ugly results after that, but the boys are finally becoming confident and believe that they can come out on the winning end with three hard played periods of hockey.

This past weekend had the team traveling south west to the Kitchener Blue Line tournament where once again, they showed that they had what it takes to compete and win.  The first two games resulted in wins against Nickel City and Grey Bruce.  Their third round robin game had the boys up against the host Kitchener Jr. Rangers.  Once again, the players found themselves in penalty trouble which caused a serious unhinging causing them to suffer a 6-0 clobbering. Their fourth and final round robin game produced the same type of result against the Huron Perth Lakers, lack of cohesion and penalty trouble dished them a 4-0 loss.  However, they made it into the semis against the number 1 team from the other pool - The Guelph Gryphons.  Through team work, hard play, defense and stellar goal tending the boys managed to pull out a 1-0 win and another trip to a tournament final.   The final was against the home team Rangers and once again they proved to be that much better and come out with a 5-1 win over our Preds.  Again, a super successful tournament showing that our boys should be proud of.

Moving onto Richmond Hill this Friday for a regular season match up.

KEEP IT UP BOYS!
