A great weekend in Barrie.
It was another great weekend of hockey for the Minor Atoms.

It was another great weekend of hockey for the Minor Atoms. The boys took part in the Annual Barrie AAA Zone Remembrance Day tournament and made it to their first semi-final game. The progress of this young group of players has been steadily growing and the change from the beginning of the year has been tremendous.

The team started on Friday with an early win over Kingston. The final did not reflect the score as the boys ran into to hot goal tender on the Kingston side. Our goal tending proved to be crucial as well, with a huge save with under three minutes left in the game to keep us up by one. A great defensive effort proved to be the game changer and allowed the boys to take the win. The tournament continued Saturday with tough games against Peterborough and Ottawa. Friday proved to be the difference maker with a win over Kingston which led the team to the Semi Finals.

After a tough 7-1 loss to Ottawa the night before the team bounced back Sunday morning and took a 3-2 lead with twelve minutes to go in the third. From there it was an offensive show down with the game going back and forth. A big goal with a minute to go brought the Minor Atoms within one. With thirty seconds to go and a couple off the posts, a quick bounce out of the offensive zone ultimately led to an empty netter for a 7-5 loss. Ultimately the game was lost, however, the hard work put in by this team in that final game was another step forward for this incredible group of players.

It’s back to work at practice to this week before the team hits the road for Kingston and Quinte.
