Drew Doughty 2nd Annual Tournament in London
The Elmvale Home Building Centre Major Atom AAA Predators participated this past weekend in the Drew Doughty 2nd Annual Tournament.

I know the outcome of the tournament may not be what we would have hoped to achieve, however we can see that we continue to see progress in the right direction and improvement after each game.

The coaching staff continues to remind the players that they are doing well at competing with all the teams that we have played so far this season and that we need to continue to work hard and that the outcomes will start going our way.  We should all be proud of the progress that the team has been able to achieve so far this season.

Game 1 in the tournament had us facing the Los Angeles Jr. Kings.  We took an early lead in the game with both teams exchanging chances.  The Kings would tie the game prior to the end of the first period.  The second period would see both teams once again playing some tight checking hockey and the score remaining deadlocked 1-1.  The 3rd period would find Los Angeles pressing hard and score a quick goal to take the lead for the first time in the game, they would score a couple more in the third before the Predators would answer with a second goal.  The game would end with LA winning 4-2.

Game 2 would see the Predators facing the Buffalo Jr. Sabres.  The Sabres would score a quick goal early in the first period.  The Predators would fight back and tie the game at the midway point of the second period and both teams exchanging 3rd period goals.  This was a well matched game with both teams trading chances and the game ending in a 2-2 tie.

Game 3 the Predators faced a familiar opponent in the Markham Waxers.  The first period would find the Predators putting a lot of pressure on the Waxers and controlling the play of the game, however the first would end tied with no teams finding the back of the net.  The Preds would be rewarded for all the hard work and continued net drive with a quick goal early in the second period.  The Waxers would battle back and tie the game late in the second.  The 3rd period would see both teams continuing to exchange chances with Markham scoring two quick goals within a 30 second span at the midway point of the period to take a 3-1 lead.  The Predators would pull the goal late in the third with hopes of being able to tie the game and salvage a point.  The Waxers would find the open net to end the game 4-1.

Game 4 had us facing off against the Chatham Kent Cyclones.  The game would open with both teams eager to find themselves in the win column and exchanging scoring chances.  Chatham Kent would score a goal late in the first period to take a 1-0 lead.  The Predators would not let this bother them and they battled hard scoring within the first 30 seconds of the start of the second period.  We would continue on to score 3 more goals in the second period and allowing the Cyclones to score a couple.  We would take a 4-3 lead into the third period.  The Cyclones would pull the goalie late in the period to add the extra skater and with a little luck would end up tying the game 4-4.

We are all proud at the work effort that was brought to each game and look forward to our next tournament.
